ReliaRing offers several products, and not all of them need an emergency address. The rule is simple: if a product can place a phone call to 911, it needs an emergency address. If it cannot place voice calls, it does not.
Products that need 911 setup
| Product | What it is | Why it needs 911 |
|---|---|---|
| ReliaRing (cloud phone system) | Your full business phone system | You place voice calls, including 911 |
| ReliaTrunk (SIP trunking) | Connects your own phone system, Microsoft Teams or Webex to our network | Calls originate through us, so 911 must be registered |
| Microsoft Teams / Webex Calling | Calling through Teams or Webex on our network | These place voice calls, so 911 applies |
| E911 (standalone) | Emergency addresses for numbers you keep with another provider | Its entire purpose is 911 registration |
For any of these, an administrator completes Set up emergency calling under Emergency (E911). Until the company address is confirmed and the 911 limitations are acknowledged, outbound calling stays off (911 and 933 always work). See Registering and Updating Your Emergency Address.
Products that do not need 911 setup
- ReliaFax (online fax). Fax sends documents, not voice calls. You cannot dial 911 from a fax line.
- ReliaForward (call forwarding). A forwarding number sends incoming calls on to a phone you already have. When you dial 911, you do it from that phone, and its own provider handles the call. Forwarding to 911 is not allowed.
- ReliaVerify (line monitoring). Automated test calls check that important lines are working. It never dials 911.
Quick way to tell
Ask yourself: "Can a person pick this up and dial an outside number, including 911?"
- Yes → it needs an emergency address (ReliaRing, ReliaTrunk, Teams, Webex, standalone E911).
- No → it does not (ReliaFax, ReliaForward, ReliaVerify).
A note on mixed accounts
If you use several products — for example ReliaRing for phones plus ReliaFax for documents — you only set up 911 for the calling side. Emergency (E911) appears whenever you have at least one product that can place calls, and it covers all of them from one place.
