Not every business is ready to move its phone service. You might keep your numbers with your current provider but still want reliable, well-managed 911 behind them. That is what the standalone E911 product is for.
Your calling stays where it is today. What you get from us is the emergency side: a validated emergency address for each number, the ability to keep it current, on-site alerts when someone dials 911, and the same compliance tools our phone-system customers use.
When this is the right fit
- You want to keep your existing numbers and calling provider for now.
- You need a dependable, auditable way to register and update 911 addresses.
- You have numbers across several sites and want one place to manage them.
If you are already a ReliaRing phone-system or SIP-trunk customer, you do not need this add-on — 911 is built in. See Which ReliaRing Products Need 911 Setup.
How it works
Standalone E911 uses the same Emergency (E911) hub as the rest of the platform:
- Add your emergency addresses on the Addresses tab and set your company default.
- Give each number its address. On the Coverage tab, filter to phone numbers and use Change to pick the emergency address for each one (or select several and assign one address to all of them). A number with no address of its own uses the company default.
- Set up alerts. Add a notification group so your on-site staff are alerted when someone dials 911.
- Confirm it works. Run a 933 test.
Each registered number is a billable emergency registration — see What 911 Service Costs.
Getting your external numbers into the system
A number needs to be on your ReliaRing account before you can register it. If a number you keep with another provider is missing from Coverage, contact our team and we will help you add it.
Important limits to understand
Standalone E911 manages the emergency address for your numbers. It does not carry your everyday calls — those still run through your other provider. Because of that:
- How each number reaches 911 depends on how your provider routes it and how it connects to us. Our team confirms this during onboarding.
- The usual internet 911 limitations apply. Review How 911 Works on an Internet Phone Service.
- Always keep another way to reach emergency services, such as a mobile phone.
